Family Mediation

Our expert family mediators specialize in navigating the complexities of family disputes. The Mediation Information Assessment Meetings (MIAM’s) is a compulsory first step ..

  • process for anyone either wanting to try Mediation substantively or for those not wanting to go direct through the court system and apply for a child arrangement or financial relief or property adjustment order. They canreach agreements in mediation, particularly during difficult transitions such as divorce or separation.

It involves a neutral mediator who facilitates discussions between family members to address issues related to parenting, finances, and other familial concerns. Here are some key features of family mediation:

    1. Neutral Mediators: Mediators are trained professionals who remain impartial and help guide the conversation without taking sides.

    2. Focus on Communication: The process encourages open dialogue, helping family members express their feelings and concerns in a constructive manner.

    3. Voluntary Participation: Participation in family mediation is typically voluntary, meaning all parties agree to engage in the process.

    4. Customizable Solutions: Mediators assist families in crafting tailored agreements that work for their unique situations, rather than imposing solutions.

    5. Confidentiality: Mediation sessions are private, allowing families to discuss sensitive issues without fear of public exposure.

    6. Parenting Agreements: A significant focus is often on creating parenting plans that outline custody arrangements, visitation schedules, and decision-making processes.

    7. Cost-Effective: Family mediation can be less expensive than litigation, making it a more accessible option for many families.

    8. Skill Building: Participants can develop conflict resolution skills that may help them manage future disagreements more effectively.

Family mediation aims to reduce conflict and promote healthier relationships, helping families transition more smoothly during challenging times.

Parenting Plan

A parenting plan is a written agreement that outlines how parents will raise their children after separation or divorce. It serves as a guide to ensure ….

  • that both parents are on the same page regarding their child's upbringing. Key components typically include:

    1. Custody Arrangements: Details about legal and physical custody, including which parent the child lives with primarily and how decisions will be made.

    2. Visitation Schedule: A detailed schedule of when the child will be with each parent, including holidays, weekends, and vacations.

    3. Communication Guidelines: How parents will communicate about the child’s needs, schedules, and important decisions.

    4. Decision-Making: Clarification on who will make decisions regarding education, healthcare, and other important aspects of the child's life.

    5. Child Support: Information on financial responsibilities, including who will pay for what and how expenses will be shared.

    6. Dispute Resolution: A process for resolving disagreements, which might include mediation or other methods.

    7. Flexibility and Modifications: Provisions for adjusting the plan as the child grows or circumstances change.

Creating a parenting plan can help reduce conflict and provide stability for children during transitions. It’s often encouraged to involve legal counsel or mediators to ensure that the plan is fair and comprehensive.

Community Mediation

Community mediation is a process that helps resolve conflicts within a community through the assistance of neutral third-party mediators.

  • It focuses on facilitating communication and understanding between parties involved in a dispute, aiming for a mutually acceptable resolution. Here are some key aspects of community mediation:

    1. Neutral Mediators: Trained individuals who do not take sides and help guide the conversation between the parties.

    2. Voluntary Participation: Both parties choose to engage in mediation and can withdraw at any time.

    3. Confidential Process: Discussions during mediation are private, encouraging open and honest communication.

    4. Empowerment: Parties are encouraged to express their views and work collaboratively towards a solution that meets their needs.

    5. Community Focus: Mediation often addresses issues affecting local communities, such as neighborhood disputes, family conflicts, or organizational disagreements.

    6. Cost-Effective: Typically, community mediation services are offered at little to no cost, making it accessible for individuals and families.

    7. Skill Development: Participants often learn conflict resolution skills that can help them handle future disputes more effectively.

Overall, community mediation promotes understanding and cooperation, helping to build stronger, more resilient communities.
